Dr. Khnuma Simmonds
Founder of Girlfriendism, Dr. Khnuma Simmonds is also a mental health advocate with a Master’s Degree in Education Guidance and Counseling from the University of the Virgin Islands and and a Doctor of Philosophy with a PhD in Advanced Studies in Human Behavior from Capella University!
Research:
Her published dissertation, 'Caribbean Women, Music & Dance: Self-Expression and Intimate Partner Violence', investigated the perceived impact of Caribbean music and dance on the self-expression of Caribbean survivors of domestic violence in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Founder of Girlfriendism, Dr. Khnuma Simmonds is also a Mental Health and Domestic Violence Prevention Advocate!
She has extensive training and experience working with adolescents and adults affected by domestic violence, sexual assault and family violence.

Treatment Modalities
She utilizes a comprehensive model to meet the complex needs of clients using modalities of treatment with trauma and healing informed care, creative therapies and person-centered therapy techniques for successful outcomes.

She is a member of:
The National American Counseling Association (ACA) with prior memberships in the Creative Therapies and Social Justice Committees; and the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) as an Alternate Route (AR) student.
